Lights is the curious moniker of 23-year old Canadian singer-songwriter Valerie Poxleitner. (Personally, I think “Poxleitner” is way catchier than “Lights,” but on second thought, it also sounds like an STD.) She’s not quite a newb on the scene, as “My Boots” is a cut off her sophomore record. The song merges a groovy dance vibe with an electronic influence, pushed by a whimsical synth-led melody. Proof that pop can be simple—not simplistic—and good. Its earned a permanent spot on my fall 2010 playlist, and I’m thinking it’ll segway nicely into my winter 2010 playlist too.
